Book Description

First compiled around 1690 by Yehe Elder and Li Woping, "Zengshan Buyi" is a foundational classic of Six Lines Divination (Wen Wang Gua or the Na Jia Method), long considered essential reading for serious I Ching students. Featuring over 460 real-world case studies, as well as the "Golden Strategy," a core text referenced throughout Six Lines Divination literature, it offers a practical and systematic framework for divination. This work is considered a must-read introductory textbook for Six Lines Divination, suitable for beginners to solidify their grasp of principles and methods through its case studies, while also serving as a valuable resource for advanced practitioners. With each reading, as one's understanding of Six Lines deepens, new insights are continually gained. As a foundational text, it places less emphasis on symbolic imagery. For a more comprehensive study of symbolic methods, readers are advised to consult other classical works. This English edition—possibly the first—was translated by Xuan Wanyan, a Columbia University graduate from a family steeped in the I Ching tradition, making this once-esoteric system accessible to non-Chinese readers while faithfully preserving its original depth.

The complete set (Volume 1–4) contains approximately 204,000 words.
