About I Ching Stream

I Ching Stream is the first platform to systematically bring orthodox Chinese I Ching divination to the world.

We restore its practical traditions as a gateway to the wider system of Chinese Yi learning, making the wisdom and strategic thinking of Chinese civilization accessible worldwide.

Program

Purpose of the Program

The Academic Research Access program supports research expected to contribute to a journal article, academic book, book chapter, thesis, dissertation, conference paper, or another identifiable scholarly publication.

Applicants may apply during the preliminary research stage. A completed manuscript or confirmed publisher is not required, but applicants should clearly explain their research subject, expected outcome, and intended use of the materials.

The program is not intended for general personal study, professional divination training, commercial use, or informal exploration without a defined academic research purpose.

Who May Apply

Applications are considered individually according to the relevance and credibility of the proposed research project.

Faculty members conducting research or preparing scholarly publications in relevant fields.

Professors emeriti continuing active and relevant academic research.

Graduate Students

Master’s and doctoral students working on a defined thesis, dissertation, paper, or related project.

Independent Scholars

Qualified researchers able to provide an academic profile, publication record, or comparable research background.

Academic Institutions

Universities, libraries, academic departments, and research institutions undertaking a specific project.

Relevant fields may include Chinese studies, Yijing studies, history, philosophy, religious studies, anthropology, literature, intellectual history, divination studies, and related disciplines. Academic title or institutional affiliation alone does not guarantee approval.

What Access May Include

Approved access is limited to materials relevant to the accepted research project.

  • Restored English translations of classical Chinese I Ching divination texts
  • Six Lines Divination, Liu Yao, Wen Wang Gua, and Na Jia resources
  • Historical, textual, symbolic, and practical research materials
  • Selected case studies, research notes, and related publications

Approval does not automatically provide access to the entire Digital Library. The materials provided are determined according to the approved project.

Translation and Preservation

Our Translation and Preservation Work

Many classical Chinese I Ching divination texts have historically remained available primarily in Chinese. I Ching Stream works to restore, translate, organize, and present these materials in English while preserving their traditional terminology, analytical structure, and practical context.

Access Period and Conditions

Access Period

Approved access is temporary and project-based. The standard initial access period is three months. Up to six months may be approved for justified longer-term research projects.

Access expires automatically at the end of the approved period. Extensions must be requested separately and are reviewed individually.

Access Conditions

  • Access is provided through the I Ching Stream online reading platform.
  • Materials are not downloadable.
  • Access is personal and may not be shared or transferred.
  • Materials may not be redistributed, republished, resold, or used commercially without written permission.
  • Academic quotations and citations must provide appropriate attribution.
  • Applicants are expected to provide the DOI, publication link, bibliographic information, or final citation when the resulting work becomes available.
  • I Ching Stream may limit, suspend, or withdraw access if the approved purpose changes or the access conditions are not followed.
