Description
A comprehensive learning manual, a practical reference, and a bridge to I Ching wisdom and the Chinese classics.
I Ching Stream is the first platform systematically bringing traditional Chinese I Ching divination to the world. Drawing on this foundation of translation and teaching, I Ching Divination Manual brings together the essential teachings of major classics in a guide that combines ease of learning with practical usefulness.
Written by Xuan Wanyan, the book explores the history and philosophical foundations of I Ching divination. It systematically introduces the Da Yan yarrow-stalk method familiar to many readers outside China, alongside Plum Blossom Divination and Na Jia, also known as Six Lines Divination or Wen Wang Gua. Clear explanations progress from basic concepts to deeper analysis, helping international readers get started quickly and gradually master the theory and practice.
From casting a hexagram to interpreting it, from judging outcomes to determining timing, this manual organizes core rules scattered across classical texts by question, subject, and practical use. It includes over 160 worked hexagram examples, combining cases drawn from classical texts with a substantial collection of modern cases. These examples demonstrate how to examine the development and outcome of events and the timing of key changes, presenting the reasoning alongside recorded results.
The book also guides readers toward understanding change, timing, and when to advance or withdraw. Beginning with “learn divination before studying Yi (the I Ching),” it offers a stepping stone toward the ideal that “those who truly understand Yi need not divine.” It also prepares readers for a smooth transition to deeper study of Zengshan Buyi and other core classics.
Supporting online tools, a dedicated case-study column, and translated classics at ichingstream.com provide ongoing learning support, extending study and practice beyond the book.
