🎉😄A quick note before today’s content: our charting feature can now provide simple case analysis to help users interpret hexagrams. It is not a replacement for systematic study, but it can assist beginners in identifying basic structures, line relationships, movement, transformation, void, and other key points in a reading.

Background:

A woman’s husband suddenly developed an acute illness. She cast a hexagram to ask about her husband’s condition and whether the illness was serious. Hexagram obtained: Tong Ren to Li.

Judgment:

This was a highly auspicious hexagram showing descendants and wife and wealth moving in sequence to generate the significator god. Through the convergence of multiple timing indications, the hexagram also precisely pointed to a very fast recovery.

1. Locating the significator god and the broad image: auspicious signs appeared, and the illness was not serious

When a wife asks about her husband’s illness, the officials and ghosts line is taken as the significator god.

In the entire hexagram, there was only one officials and ghosts M water line, so it was the true significator god.

The fifth-line wife and wealth J metal was openly active and transformed into descendants H earth, forming the highly auspicious pattern of returning generate. At the same time, the active J metal directly generated the significator god M water.

At the level of judging auspiciousness or inauspiciousness, this was already a clear auspicious hexagram. It directly showed that the husband’s illness was not serious.

The officials and ghosts M water significator god was also void in the cycle. In Six Lines illness readings, a void significator god is an extremely important detail. Void represents emptiness, absence, and lack of real substance. When judging illness, void must be analyzed differently according to whether the illness is recent or long-standing.

Recent illness, sudden illness, and a void significator god

For a recent or sudden illness, the significator god falling into void is auspicious. It shows that although the illness appears urgent, the illness has no root. Because void represents emptiness, the illness is not substantial and has not damaged the foundation.

For timing, if the significator god is prosperous and supportive and is not clashed or overcome by the month, the day, or active lines, recovery often occurs on the day when the void is clashed open or filled.

Long-standing illness, chronic illness, and a void significator god

For a long-standing illness, the significator god falling into void is highly inauspicious. A long illness already means the body is weak and depleted. If the significator god is void, it can indicate exhaustion of original qi, deficiency of qi and blood, and lack of foundation.

For timing, if it also meets monthly break or an active obstacle god overcoming it, this often indicates danger. If it meets compatibility or filling, one must guard against a serious limit, meaning possible worsening or danger.

Six Clashes hexagram

Six Clashes represents dispersed qi and rapid change.

For a recent illness, Six Clashes is auspicious. It shows that the illness can be quickly released and resolved. This is the principle that a recent illness meeting clash can quickly recover.

For a long-standing illness, Six Clashes is highly inauspicious. The patient’s qi and blood are already depleted, and if the condition is further scattered by clash, the original qi can be severely damaged. This may lead to worsening illness or even danger to life.

Six Compatibles hexagram

Six Compatibles represents gathered qi, entanglement, and obstruction.

For a recent illness, Six Compatibles is unfavorable. It shows that the illness is lingering, condensed, and difficult to disperse or cure.

For a long-standing illness, Six Compatibles is favorable. It shows that the condition can stabilize and that there is still life force to rely on.

Therefore, taken together, this illness was not serious.

2. Medicine became covertly active, and the chain of generation supported the significator god

In illness readings, the descendants line represents medicine and treatment.

In this hexagram, descendants L earth was originally void in the cycle. However, it was clashed by the E day, because E and L clash. This made it covertly active through the clash from the day.

The covertly active descendants L earth generated the openly active wife and wealth J metal. J metal then generated the officials and ghosts M water significator god.

This formed a very complete structure: descendants and wife and wealth moved in sequence to generate the significator god.

The J metal month also generated and supported the officials and ghosts M water significator god. Therefore, the officials and ghosts line was prosperous and supportive. This was a firm indication that the husband would recover.

3. Core timing: multiple signs converged on the F day

Covert activity indicates urgency: The descendants L earth was covertly active. In timing judgment, covert activity indicates that the matter develops quickly and urgently. This showed that the illness would recover very quickly.

Timing from the source god: The openly active wife and wealth J metal was the source god. The timing for it to function is usually when it coincides with its own branch, the J day, or when it meets compatibility, the F day, because F and J are compatible.

Timing from the significator god: The officials and ghosts M water significator god was currently void in the cycle. The timing for a void line is usually when it comes out of void and coincides with its own branch, the M day, or when it is clashed out, the F day, because F and M clash.

The convergence point: Considering the urgent nature shown by covert activity, and the timing indications from both the active source god and the void significator god, all the timing conditions converged on the F day.

The day of divination was an E day. The next day was precisely an F day.

Conclusion:

The husband’s illness was not serious and would recover very quickly.

The wife and wealth J metal moved and transformed into descendants H earth, forming returning generate, while J metal also generated the officials and ghosts M water significator god. The descendants L earth, representing medicine, became covertly active through the clash from the E day and generated J metal, which then generated the significator god.

The significator god was void, but because this was a sudden illness, void showed that the illness had no root. Together with the chain of generation and the timing signs converging on the F day, the judgment was that the husband would recover the next day.

Feedback:

The actual result matched the hexagram.

The husband’s illness completely recovered on the second day after the divination, which was the F day.
