Today, a member of our Discord community shared a case involving a missing USPS package. This reminded me of another lost-property case involving a missing phone.
Background:
The male querent normally carried two mobile phones. After arriving at work that day, he discovered that the phone he used less frequently was missing. He searched around the office but could not find it, so he cast a hexagram to ask whether the phone had truly been lost and whether it could still be recovered.
Hexagram obtained: Sheng to Heng.
Judgment:
This was a classic lost-property reading in which the wife and wealth line held the host line and transformed into returning generate. The hexagram showed that the missing phone could still be found and would ultimately return to its owner.
1. Body and use analysis: body overcoming use and the transformed hexagram forming peer harmony
In the main hexagram, the upper trigram was the use trigram, Kun earth, while the lower trigram was the body trigram, Xun wood.
The body trigram overcame the use trigram. In lost-property divination, body overcoming use indicates that the missing item can be recovered, although the process may require considerable time and effort. It is usually an image of delayed recovery.
The transformed hexagram, Heng, formed peer harmony.
Peer harmony represents that the upper and lower trigrams come from the same five element, usually indicating auspiciousness.
For example, in 52.Gen, both the upper and lower trigrams are Gen earth. In 23.Bo, the upper trigram is Gen earth and the lower trigram is Kun earth, so both belong to earth. In 32.Heng, the upper trigram is Zhen wood and the lower trigram is Xun wood, so both belong to wood.
2. The host line transformed into returning generate: a sign that the missing item would be recovered
The host line, wife and wealth B earth, was active and transformed into descendants G fire.
Fire generates earth, so the transformed descendants G fire generated the original wife and wealth B earth. This formed the classic pattern of returning generate.
The wife and wealth line represented the missing phone. It not only held the host line but also transformed into a line that returned to generate and support it.
This indicated that the missing item still had support within the hexagram and would ultimately be recovered.
Although the wife and wealth B earth was in monthly break, it was an active line and also received generation from the hidden god and the transformed descendants line. Therefore, it was not genuinely destroyed and could still be recovered.
3. The location of the missing item: B earth as a storage place pointed to a parking garage
The active wife and wealth line was B earth.
In traditional Earthly Branch imagery, B is the metal tomb. It carries images associated with storage, warehouses, enclosed spaces, containers, and places where vehicles are kept.
This suggested that the phone was likely located in a place with the qualities of storage or vehicle parking.
The image therefore pointed toward a garage, parking area, vehicle storage space, or another enclosed location connected with transportation.
4. The transformed line fell into void: recovery could not be completed immediately
The host line transformed into descendants G fire, which fell into void in the cycle because G and H were void.
When an active line transforms into void, the matter may remain temporarily unresolved and cannot be completed immediately.
This explained why the querent could not find the phone when he first searched the office. The recovery had not yet become concrete, and he needed to wait for someone else to discover the phone.
This also matched the body-and-use analysis.
Conclusion:
The phone had not been permanently lost and could be recovered.
The body trigram overcame the use trigram, indicating that the querent could regain control of the missing item, although the recovery process would require time and effort.
The transformed hexagram formed peer harmony, further supporting an auspicious outcome.
The wife and wealth line held the host and transformed into returning generate, showing that the missing phone would eventually return. The B earth imagery pointed toward a storage or vehicle-parking location, while the transformed line falling into void showed that the recovery would not happen immediately and would depend on someone else finding the phone first.
