Background:
A female querent planned to travel to another city in March to look for work. She asked how the job search would develop and whether she would be able to find a suitable position.
Hexagram obtained: Gou to Xun.
Judgment:
This hexagram showed a complicated job-search process in which an opportunity appeared promising on the surface but ultimately did not belong to the querent. Although a short-term job opportunity would appear, the significator god became preoccupied with compatibility, while the host line remained weak under the month and day. Therefore, the job search would be difficult at that time, and the querent needed to wait for a more favorable period.
1. Locating the significator god and the apparent opportunity: the corresponding officials and ghosts line was active and generated the host line
For job divination, the officials and ghosts line is taken as the significator god.
In this hexagram, the corresponding line, representing the outside location or the other party, was officials and ghosts G fire and was active. G fire generated the host line B earth because fire generates earth.
This objectively showed that the querent could indeed encounter a specific job opportunity that appeared promising at first.
2. The core reversal: the job became preoccupied with compatibility and the transformed line clashed the host line
Although the corresponding officials and ghosts G fire originally generated the host line, it moved and transformed into parents H earth, forming G-H returning compatibility.
In Six Lines interpretation, when an active line becomes preoccupied with compatibility, it is occupied by that compatibility and cannot freely continue generating the host line.
